A couple of words from Beckenham scouts ‘Thank you Chokha, as a local business your support in fundraising is greatly appreciated’

At the end of 2017, 100 applicants from the Boroughs of Bromley and Bexley went through a rigorous selection process in order to be selected to be part of the contingent, of 36 Scouts and 4 Leaders from Greater London South East Scouts attending the 24th World Scout Jamboree. The World Scout Jamboree is a global Scouting event that happens every 4 years and gathers together 40,000+ Scouts from across the globe. The next one will be taking place in West Virginia, USA in Summer 2019.

The World Scout Jamboree is a brilliant development opportunity for those who attended. Each member will have a number of Personal Development Goals to work towards in the build up to the Jamboree, and after the Jamboree itself. Not only does it build cultural awareness and communication skills, it also develops people’s confidence and soft skills – which will be vitally important as the participants will soon be entering the job market.

One of the biggest challenges of attending a World Scout Jamboree is the fundraising. It costs £3,800 per person to attend. The cost includes a solidarity fund to help scouts less fortunate from other countries who without this help could not also attend the Jamboree.

Scouts has been busy fundraising with a number of great events such as Bag packing at Sainsburys, Summer fete at Grove Park, Cake sales, Quizzes and Bingo nights and much more.
